CARING FOR YOUR HYDROSEEDED LAWN

  1. During renovation most of the seed is cut into the ground but you will see seed lying on top. This is normal.
  2. With overseeding, all of the old grass thrown on top is left on the lawn. This helps hold the moisture and protect seed from the birds.
  3. Watering instructions for Fall seed: The first watering after application should be at one hour per area, then water 15 minutes per area each day until germination.
  4. After the seed starts to germinate (usually 7-10 days) water once a week with at least one inch of water if we have not had an inch of rainfall. (An inexpensive rain gauge is helpful in determining the correct amount of moisture).
  5. Seed will usually start to germinate in 7-10 days (some may germinate in as little as four days). Seed will continue to germinate until cold weather.
  6. Grass will come in heavy in spots while other spots will show no signs of germination. This is normal, but be assured, these spots will fill in later.
  7. For the first year, newly seeded lawns are very susceptible to fungus. This will do no lasting damage to your lawn. The older a lawn gets, the more resistant to fungus it becomes.
  8. Under normal germination conditions, lawns should be ready for the first mowing in 30-45 days after seeding (mow grass to a height of three inches).

What Is Hydroseeding?

Hydroseeding is the process of mixing seed, fertilizer and fiber-mulch with water in correct proportions inside a tank and then spraying onto designated lawn areas.

The Benefits of Hydroseeding

  • Seed germinates faster.
  • Higher percentage of seed germinates.
  • Higher grass plant survival.
  • Greatly reduced soil erosion.
  • Uniform distribution of seed, fertilizer, and mulch.
  • Mulch turns to humus and becomes integral part of soil.
  • A fuller, more plush lawn develops.
  • Of course, the germination time will depend on the weather conditions, the amount of water, the time of year, and other factors.  Usually grass will be visible in 5-7 days, however, it could take a few days more in cold weather or the hottest part of summer.

    Hydroseeding a new lawn

The ingredients that are used in the hydroseed mix is a combination of:

    1. Water: The water works as a carrier, and when it contacts the seed fast germination is the result. Your hydroseeded lawn will come up much faster than with dry seed.

    2. Seed: The seed that we use for hydroseeding is the same that is used for other seeding methods. A special blend of seeds will be used that will be chosen for the conditions and requirements you have.  The factors that may go into the choice may be the amount of sun, shade, the terrain, the type of soil and if you have children or pets.

    3. Fertilizer: A high phosphorus "starter"  fertilizer that will stimulate root growth is used in the mix.

    4. Mulch: The hydroseed mulch is the ingredient that gives the spray the green color.  It helps protect the seed, and seals in the moisture.  Unlike traditional straw mulch (which is loaded with weed seed), hydroseed mulch has NO weed seeds.

    Finish Grading

Finish grading consists of adjusting and finishing soil surfaces to a smooth, even plane. The areas adjacent to building are graded to slope away from the building to allow a natural run off of water.

Please contact us today and one of our trained, professional staff will get in touch with you as soon as possible to arrange a hydroseeding consultation.
